REX-ISOLDE  

REX-ISOLDE is a post-accelerator for radioactive ions produced by ISOLDE. Its main task is to accelerate the 60 keV ions from ISOLDE up to 0.8 - 2.2 MeV/u. To achieve this, REX-ISOLDE consists of three main parts:

• REXTRAP - A Penning Trap for accumulating, bunching and cooling the ions from ISOLDE.
• EBIS - An electron beam ion source to charge bread the ions
• LINAC - A linear accelerator for accelerating the ions
